
Position: Associate, Human Resources
Aga Khan University (AKU) is looking for an HR Associateto join our team in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. In this exciting role, you’ll be a key player in supporting the employee lifecycle at our university. Your responsibilities will include recruiting and onboarding new faculty and staff, managing employee relations, overseeing benefits, ensuring compliance with labor laws, and keeping accurate HR records.
What You’ll Do:
- Recruitment: Manage the complete recruitment process for academic positions. This includes crafting engaging job descriptions, advertising open roles, screening applications, coordinating interviews, and performing background checks.
- Onboarding: Ensure a smooth onboarding experience for new hires. You’ll facilitate induction programs, coordinate with IT for equipment setup, and handle essential documentation.
- Employee Support: Be the go-to person for employees and managers. Answer their questions and concerns about HR policies and procedures.
- Grievance Management: Help manage employee grievances and disputes, ensuring everyone is treated fairly.
- Exit Interviews: Conduct exit interviews to gather feedback and pinpoint areas for improvement.
- Benefits Management: Oversee employee benefits programs, including medical insurance, leave management, and pension schemes. Make sure benefits paperwork is processed timely and accurately.
- Record Keeping: Maintain precise and up-to-date employee records, both in physical files and electronically.
- Legal Compliance: Ensure compliance with all relevant labor laws and regulations, and assist in conducting regular audits of HR processes.
- Performance Evaluation: Support the performance evaluation process for academic staff and help develop performance improvement plans as needed.
- Training Collaboration: Work with the Learning and Development team to identify training needs and organize relevant programs for academic staff.
- HR Reporting: Prepare regular HR reports, including leave statistics, medical usage, and other key metrics.
What We’re Looking For:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in HR, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Experience: At least 3 years of experience in HR administration, ideally in a large, multi-site organization.
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of Tanzanian labor laws.
- Skills: Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is a must.
