Purpose of the Role
This role focuses on training and coaching new and junior tele-remote operators, helping them perform loading and dumping cycles from production stopes into assigned stockpiles using remote control systems. It involves hands-on training to ensure these operators gain skills in handling manual loading from free-bogging stopes. The role also includes knowledge transfer as per set training plans to help junior operators become skilled and confident in their roles.
Qualifications
- Certified Tele Remote Operator
- Training Certificate / Relevant Experience
- RCT Level 1 Training Certificate
- Formal Qualification (Diploma/Certificate) in Mining Engineering (advantageous)
Experience
- 10+ years working in mechanized underground mining as a Tele Remote Operator, Specialist, or Trainer.
- Strong knowledge of underground mining practices, including load and haul cycles and remote loader operations.
- Familiarity with RCT remote control systems (analog/digital).
- Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
- Team player with a strong focus on safety and hazard identification.
Main Responsibilities
- Train and coach junior and new tele-remote operators to improve their skills and adapt to underground mining conditions.
- Develop and review training plans for operator trainees, providing regular progress feedback.
- Operate and monitor loading processes from stopes to trucks, ensuring alignment with approved loading plans.
- Conduct safety inspections, like checking stope brows before bogging.
- Confirm laser and physical barricades are functional, and clear the level of any personnel or obstructions before remote loading.
- Ensure all areas are left clean and maintained after each bogging cycle, including roadways and workspace.
- Educate and train operators in all aspects of remote and free-bogging operations.
- Conduct pre-start equipment checks, maintain all tools, and ensure the tele-remote PC or tele hut is clean and locked when not in use.
Additional Requirements
- Ability to conduct on-the-job training and skills transfer
- Familiarity with training evaluation and performance monitoring methods
- Good communication skills and strong work ethic
- First aid knowledge
- Proficiency in written and spoken English
- Excellent hand-eye coordination
- Familiarity with remote monitoring systems (RMS)
